I understand that the Player had Personal family reasons for asking for a move.

Just hope that a move can sort these problems out for the lad who has always given 100% even if sometimes it has not been effective.

Such a shame for us but we have to move on.

Farewell Medy and good luck for the future.

I know he had many friends who weren't exactly law abiding citizens. Wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to get away from that as I think he has a young boy. Bit weird that Venlo announcing him as signed and presenting him with a shirt etc and us saying we expect it to go through end of this week/start of next week.

It's probably a bit of semantics, being a matter of signing papers, getting it through the FA, etc.

Do you think this frees up enough finds for a return of zavon?

We can even tempt him with the prospect of the coveted number 7 shirt now!

In all seriousness, I'm pleased he's gone to try his luck abroad, not many English players do that. Presumably he had a chat with Rhys, whose career was reinvented over there, and made the decision to switch. A quick google tells me that VVV are in good shape, 10 places above Murphy's Telstar last season and only recently relegated from the top division. Also the former team of Keisuke Honda, of CSKA, Milan and Japan fame. If he gets his head down and they get promoted he can really forge a career for himself at a much higher level than League 2. (I also wonder if he has ambitions of playing for DR Congo at international level??).

Having said all that, I was never his biggest fan tbh, he seemed to live off the back of that game in League One at Carlisle for about 2 seasons, so inconsistent w/flashes of good stuff that bought him a new contract every once in a while. Hopefully we can get someone (or two) in, with his wage out the door. And possibly a fee as well.

Don't strikers in the Dutch League end up with 40 odd goals in 30 games over there? If the standard is high but the style of play lets him run with the ball, beat players and his size doesn't affect him then he should do well... I would guess it is less physical than League 2 of Conference Level English football.

Bags of potential, but as others say, turns it on for 1 in 5 rather than 4 in 5... on his day he has won games on his own. Interested to also see if he gets a chance through the middle there

Not consistent enough for many but still a big loss at this time when you consider the extent of change the team are experiencing since last season.

With Rhys "still missing in action", unless someone knows any good news about his rehab, and Zavon still needing to show he can play to a level (after his injury) to be offered a new contract, even if he is interested, then Wayne has one hell of a job on his hands.

IMO if he keeps us up next year with so much upheaval and with the normal constraints on his budget, then he will be up there with the best in non Premiership managers.

I watch Dutch football quite regularly and the ball rarely leaves the ground, it's a lot more technical and less physical than English leagues, it will definitely suit him more. It's very attacking & attractive, so hopefully he can improve himself out there!

What would you expect this fee would be? I can't see it being more than mid 5 figures, if that

If he had handed in a transfer request I don't imagine it will be too high... not likely to be too much haggling if he wanted out and we were happy to allow him to move.

Just watched Wayne's interview, and it makes sense now. Medy's partner and son live in Dusseldorf about 35 miles from Venlo, Medy wants to live with his son and partner and spend more time with them, so when there was interest from Venlo, Medy wanted to go. We offered him a new deal and everything to keep him, but he wanted to go that much, so instead of running down his contract with him being unhappy we agreed the transfer. - that's basically what I understand of it.

The other news from Wayne's interview, is that Rhys is not even running at the moment after his op. A specialist will determine tomorrow if he can start jogging/running etc but it must surely be unlikely that he will be ready for the start of the season. I hope we do not rush him back, as we need him playing like he did last year before his injury.

It seems , (sadly IMO), that Jamie Cureton may be about to sign up again with Cheltenham.
