I haven't written for a long time but had an urge to type out the thoughts swimming around in my head about Peter Taylor and the Daggers. I may keep this blog going intermittently if it goes down well but we'll see. Just something I fancied doing in my spare time and sharing with others.
Any thoughts or comments would be grand!
Should Peter Taylor be Daggers manager next season?
Quite a good read actually. I don’t know if we’d get anyone better than Taylor with his knowledge and contacts. You might be right and we’ll be giving him the elbow midway thru next season if he doesn’t do the business early on, but he should absolutely be given the chance to do it. Barring a disaster he’s overachieved by some way this season with quarter of a team. Maybe we’ll be the management success story on his cv.
Bollix to Shampoo, it's real poo we want !

A well-written and reasoned post Lee.
I'm neither here nor there on whether Taylor stays. Whether he can be entrusted to recruit correctly must play a part, whilst the early recruitment was poor, the recruitment later was probably good on equal measure.
Ultimately he will stay. It's been made known the contract he is on runs beyond this season. I don't think he will be sacked, whether he contract would have been renewed if it was due to expire I don't know.
I just wish he would be a little more on-side with the fans. He has without doubt taken some flak from some quarters which can't be enjoyable but is simply the reality of a football manger - he surely must realise this having being in management for over 30 years. Taking subtle jabs and avoiding the supporters (referring to no longer appearing in the bar etc.) will only make people turn on him quicker when a couple bad results occur.

Lee,
Good ramblings buddy.
Taylor has a 2 year contract and I feel we should honour that. His goal was 20th place - achieved with the assistance of the new owners
His later season signings were proving to be the best(with the backing of the new owners)
The club is going to release and retain players this summer, which will give him the nucleus of the squad for next season. I think we will finish in the top ten next season, just outside the play off places. If PT achieves that, then that allows a younger manager to take the reins, to push us back towards promotion to league football in 20/21. I do feel however, that this younger manager, needs to be on board by January of next year to realise those dreams.

Good article but the short answer hss to be yes. I accept some fans concerns that he is defensive and maybe not the younger progressive manager we need longer term but he deserves to see how his contract, barring it going tits up next season.
I don't accept his early season recruitment was poor- he was effectively having to get scraps from the table, once he had some funds his recruitment was nothing short of excellent.
I do think it's important to engage with the fans though and I do wonder if PT is a bit of an obstinate bloke. Ipswich are an example of how things can go sour between the fans and manager (and Alladyce at West Ham) and I think that relationship is an important part of today's game.

Doesn't help when certain individuals bellow abuse at him after games though does it? He's always been approachable on the occassions I have seen him around the club.
Peter Taylor is our manager at the start of next season, so we ought to get behind him. All the fake debates and doubts don't help anyone.

The abuse i've have seen is that he is negative with his set up, mainly when people have traveled vast distances only for a negative attitude to trying to win a game. We know this isn't you as you don't follow outside a 30 mile radius. Shame on you part time fan.Mike the Dagger wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 9:53 amDoesn't help when certain individuals bellow abuse at him after games though does it? Fake debate = no one is allowed an opinion, heard this from the man himself and now fellow fans. Where did they put that North Korean flag it needs an outing again.
For the first time in years i'm contemplating if to bother with a season ticket due to the manager, its boring and dull going to games with him in charge and footfall will suffer. Perhaps he should grow a pair of bollocks when it comes to his tactics and he might not get the stick.

The reason a debate on whether Taylor is right or wrong for us next season is pointless is that he isn't going anywhere, that has been made clear several times. Given that, we might as well get behind him. He's shown he can recruit well with funds available, so let see what happens during the close season and opening months of 2019/20.
Opinions on how the manager sets the team up are fine, and if you really don't like watching how we play, maybe stay at home? Ah sorry, you are a "real fan", the one that cares so much he can have a sweary rant at club officials after a disappointing result if he feels the need.
No irony at all in you deciding who is and isn't a "real" fan, then saying you might not bother with a season ticket. None whatsoever.

EVERYONE believes you were trolling and not making a twat of yourself.
Used to do away games here and there - did them all back in the Ryman’s League days - now seldom do away games, not because I’m less of a fan, but because I spend the time with my wife and kids. So you won’t see me at Gateshead.

Ryman league? So nowhere beyond the m25 :stupid:
Bless you for trying, you even went to the trouble of using an emoji suggesting that I was stupid.
If you read the post carefully, you will understand that it conveys that I used to go to away games here and there AND in the Ryman’s League day’s did them all - I did not see any point in traveling further than the grounds the games were being played at. For many of us, priorities change.
