Eddy Morgan died peacefully aged 85 years on the 19 April 2022. He was a lifelong Daggers supporter following the Dagenham FC move to the Victoria Road ground in the mid 1950’s. He volunteered during these early days of the club regularly using his spare time from his job at the Ever‐Ready Factory to paint and carry out other building work at the ground.
On matchdays he could be seen in the main stand watching with his dad, Ted, and friends Bill Tomlinson, Tony Allen and myself. Eddy would travel in the supporters coach to many of the away matches in the Delphian, Corinthian and Isthmian leagues. Much of his social life would be enjoying pint on in the clubhouse and socialising with friends and he was in the Daggers Darts team for many years.
Eddy met his wife, Evelyn Rivers at the Football Club. Evelyn herself had a strong association with the Daggers mostly through her father, Tom Rivers, who was a keen Daggers fan and a key member of the Supporters club and for many years was the club historian and archivist.
When Evelyn and Eddy got married in 1962, they held their reception in the clubhouse which was kindly donated free by the club. Eddy and Eve continued to be regular supporters of the club, home and away, and had several holidays with the Daggers when they played tournaments in Belgium, Holland, and Germany.
They followed the club through it’s ups and downs (mostly ups) as the Daggers climbed the Amateur Leagues and became semi‐professional and eventually professional. They attended all the FA Amateur and FA Trophy finals. Sadly, over recent years Eddy was not able to attend matches because of his declining physical health. He was born with a profound disability and the impact of this on his mobility meant he became more of an armchair fan. His love of the Daggers remained intact right up to his death and his room in the Residential Care was adorned with Daggers memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn, his son Tony and daughter Jenny, grand children Tom, Alfie, Luke, Bailey, Caleb, and Rhys.
