New Signings

Lee said there will be some more coming in yesterday and I’m curious to see what calibre they will be. With the new owners coming in and the immediate arrival of Andy Carroll, I think we all expected that we would have some money to throw around. But when you look at things, whilst we have made some strong signings (Haigh, Hemmings, Young, Howes) none have been showstoppers with maybe the exception of Hemmings.
I think the next batch of signings will give us a clear indication of what sort of money we have. As it’s clear we desperately need some quality that can stay fit and the profile of what we need won’t come cheap.

Maybe the pre-season games so far haven't been the best example to support my view, but I think Haigh is going to be a star... Difficult to comment on the keeper as the defence is so leaky, but certainly someone like Turner last season gave us an immediate boost

I don’t see anymore extravagant signings as all the better players are signed up already. We might pick up some free agents or some loans but don’t see much changing between now and next week. Tim Dieng the trialist who has played the past 2 will be one.
Until the takeover is complete underdog are still paying for everything.

Where has Dieng been playing? Wikipedia suggests he a 'midfielder and defender' who used to play up front in France after originally starting his career as a goalkeeper! Certainly sounds versatile

The ultimate 'utility' man (aka not much good in any position

)

Now signed Sam Graham a defender on a two year deal, Is only twenty four but has played plenty of games at a decent level so hopefully will make our defence stronger. Perhaps one of two current players will now be on way out.

With regard to Timothee Dieng, haven't seen him play but has played more than three hundred and fifty games in the EFL so if we did sign him hopefully would do a decent job at this level.

I'm not saying this is in any way, shape or form a true comparison, but hadn't Jake Hessenthaler played over 300 games in the Football League before signing for us?

I did say I had not seen Dieng play but will judge him on his performances if we sign him.

Really interesting signing if he does come in at 33 years of age... Completely different age and experience profile for the signings we have made this summer

Apart from Carroll &, Hemmings perhaps

With only ten days till the start of the season and lots of injuries Lee has said that we need more signings, especially as he probably thinks that a couple of the players that he has inherited are not at the level his is looking for.

I wonder if we will get one or two more signings announced today?

Now signed Timothee Dieng on a two year deal. As he is 33 years old the Manager must rate him highly.

Seems good enough. But 2 years at his age is risky. I imagine he would only sign if we went up to 2, I hope he just stays fit and isn’t losing it
